BRONX, N.Y. -- The George Washington women's basketball team saw its 14-game winning streak come to an end in a 76-69 loss to Atlantic 10 rival Fordham on Wednesday evening at Rose Hill Gym.
Graduate student Lauren Chase led GW (19-4, 9-1 A-10) with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting plus eight assists against just one turnover, while sophomore Brianna Cummings tallied 16 points and seven rebounds. Junior Caira Washington notched her second straight double-double with 10 points and 12 boards, and sophomore Kelli Prange was the fourth Colonial in double figures with 12 points to go with seven rebounds.
GW won the battle of the boards for the 23rd straight game, outrebounding the Rams, 41-32, including 18-4 on the offensive glass, which yielded a 13-0 edge in second-chance points.
Fordham (10-12, 5-4 A-10) led throughout and built a 10-point halftime advantage, 37-27. The Colonials rallied with an 18-11 third quarter, opening the period with a 10-4 run to pull within four, and cutting it to one on a 3-pointer by freshman Mei-Lyn Bautista with 1:40 to go. A layup by Fordham's Danielle Burns made it 48-45 after three frames.
The Rams made four 3-pointers to open the fourth quarter and regain a 10-point advantage. GW continued to battle with a 9-2 run that made it a three-point game with 2:41 remaining, but Fordham made six straight free throws over the next 2:20 to put the game out of reach.
Burns led Fordham with 31 points on 11-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and she added seven rebounds and four assists, while G'mrice Davis tallied 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
