GW Women's Hoops Falls to La Salle, 77-68

WASHINGTON - Four Colonials scored in double figures, but the George Washington women's basketball team fell to Atlantic 10 rival La Salle, 77-68, on Saturday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center.
Junior Chakecia Miller led the Colonials with 14 points and four assists and freshman Caira Washington had 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while grad students Danni Jackson and Megan Nipe added 12 points apiece.
The lead changed hands six times in the first half, with a three-pointer by Nipe at the 8:12 mark giving GW (13-7, 4-3 A-10) the lead at 24-22. La Salle (10-9, 5-2 A-10) responded with an 8-2 run and held a 38-35 advantage at the break.
Down by 10 four minutes into the second half, the Colonials climbed back into the game with a 15-6 surge over the next 10 minutes, pulling within a point, 56-55, on a layup by Jackson with 6:39 to play.
La Salle's Michaya Owens, however, drained a three-pointer on the Explorers' next possession, sparking a 15-5 run that gave the visitors a 71-60 lead with 1:19 left, and after making just 10 of its first 25 foul shots, La Salle made 6-of-8 down the stretch for the 77-68 win.
Alicia Cropper led four Explorers in double figures with 32 points on five three-pointers, while Leeza Burdgess scored 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting off the bench. Owens added 18 points and eight rebounds.
The Colonials return to action on Wednesday when they visit A-10 rival Massachusetts for an 11:45 a.m. tipoff.
