NCAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
December 10, 2005
GW 77
Stony Brook 55
GW Coach Joe McKeown How did Jessica Adair perform in her first game? "It is like dusting the cobwebs off; it's good just to have her out there, running down the floor, and going up against somebody in a different uniform. I thought she did okay. You got a little taste of what she's capable of. Once she gets in basketball shape she will be fine because she is extremely talented."
Offensively, what worked today that didn't work against Tennessee? "We were a little more aggressive getting the ball to the basket... We attacked better, and with a little more purpose. Tennessee had a size advantage on us; today, we had the size advantage."
On Keenan Cole's play "She really struggled the other night against Tennessee. I think she wanted to show what she's capable of-that it was an off-night, and she was going to do something about it. She did a good job of playing with confidence, today and she hit some big shots."
What's the team's health at this point? "We're still pretty banged up...It's been like a M*A*S*H unit around here for us. But today, I could get some of them in."
Keenan Cole You came out strong today. Are you trying to take a leadership role on the team? "To some degree, yes. But I've been in a slump the past few games, so I really wanted to get out of that."
Jessica Simmonds How was today's game different from Tennessee? "We were able to get to the basket more. They came out and denied [perimeter shots] so we were able to go inside and drive it all the way in. And for me, I was concentrating more on my shots. I always have position; it was just a matter of finishing."
Did Stony Brook's win over Temple prevent you from overlooking them? "I think everybody on our schedule is a great team. It doesn't matter who we're playing. We have to come out and compete every day."
What was it like playing against a team coached by former GW player Erica Lawrence? "I came the year after she graduated, but she was always around. She's a great person and I loved it that she was around here. It was like she was still on the team. It was really nice to see her again and I hope she does well."
