GW Coach Joe McKeown
On Jessica Simmonds:
"[EVI's players] were so quick today, but she looked quicker than them. I was really impressed with how quick she jumped. For her to play that well against them tells me she can play facing the basket a little more in the perimeter, and that will to take away some of the pounding that she got last year when she felt that she had to do everything."
On Kimberly Beck:
"The biggest thing with her is that her leadership has stepped up. She's more vocal on the court and in practice. You're going to see her be more of a scoring threat this season."
On Chantelle John:
"You see things in practice, and you're not sure you're going to see the same things in a game. Today, it seemed like she's been on the floor for two years. She carried herself with a lot of poise against real good players."
On the season opener against UVA:
"It'll be a dogfight. Like us, they're coming off of a season going to the second round of the NCAA tournament.. They have a couple of great players, and they're very quick. They have some local players who will want to play well here. Like us, they have a great tradition in women's basketball and some great players. I think it'll be a fun game, and it'll be exciting to get the season started."
Kimberly Beck
On what the team needs to work on:
"We need to work on the execution of our plays. Clearly you could see where we would break down and there were certain plays that we didn't know as well as we thought we did. Our focus this week will be on getting ready for UVA, running our plays, and executing better."
On starting the season strong:
"It's very important. Our first five games are against either ACC teams or top 25 teams. If we get out of the gate late, we're looking at a very bad start. So we need to get off to a solid start; we don't have time to wait around."
Jessica Simmonds
On playing the first game of the year:
"It was good to see us play together and against someone else to see where we are and where we need to be. It showed us a lot in terms of the different players we have and how they match up. So it taught us a lot to play today."
On Chantelle John:
"She's really impressed the team. She brought a lot today, and we needed it. She played like she was a junior, and it was good because she played against WNBA players. She showed us what she is capable of doing
