GW Completes Successful Two-Day Meet At American

WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) recorded two first place and two second place finishes, and sophomore Jeffrey Glazer (Dix Hills, NY/Commack) and senior Mark Adam (Millersville, MD/ Severna Park) also notched two event wins as the George Washington University men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed its two-day meet, Saturday, against host American University and Catholic University at the Reeves Aquatic Center.
Moss took the 100-yard (59.16 seconds) and 200-yard backstroke (2:08.02) events on Saturday, while placing second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.25) and 100-yard freestyle (54.65 seconds).
In the first day of the meet, held at CAU on Friday, Moss placed first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.94).
Glazer won both the 100-yard (47.64 seconds) and 200-yard freestyle events (1:44.19) on Saturday. Friday saw him take first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:53:42).
In the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, Adam finished first in both with times of 59.91 seconds and 2:12.70, respectively.
Other first place finishers for GW on Saturday included junior Jonathan Sabin (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield) in the 100-yard backstroke (55.21 seconds), junior Shannon Ma (Kennisaw, GA/The Walker School) in the 100-yard butterfly and freshman Ariana Berdini (Woodstock, GA/Etowah) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.26).
The Colonials swept the diving portion of the meet held earlier in the day at GW's Charles E. Smith Athletic Center Pool.
Senior Alicia Moulton (North Andover, MA/North Andover) won both the women's one and three-meter events, scoring 215.55 points and 203.10 points, respectively.
Her score in the one-meter was a personal best.
In her first-ever collegiate meet, freshman walk-on Elena Tafoya (Doylestown, PA/The Solebury School) placed second in the one-meter with 137.25 points.
Sophomore John Osterholt (Hollywood, FL/Charminade Madonna) also took both men's diving events, taking the one-meter (208.88 points) and three-meter (199.35 points).
GW hosts its 2005-06 home opener on Saturday at Smith Center Pool when they welcome Howard University. The meets is set to begin at 11:00 am.
