Swimming's Kristen Fagley Named Student-Athlete of the Year

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington senior swimmer Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster) was named the Atlantic 10 Student-Athletes of the Year in women's swimming & diving the conference has announced. Voting for the award was conducted by the Conference's sports information directors. Five other Colonials, three women and two men, joined Fagley on the list of Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference members.
The Colonials All-Conference award winners were: senior Andrew De Sorbo (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury) and junior David Penneys (Newark, DE/Archmere Academy) from the men's team and seniors Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster) and Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/James I. O'Neill), junior Kirsten Rasmuson (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel) and sophomore Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central).
This year, Fagley won the Atlantic 10 title in the 500 freestyle, posting a time of 4:55.27. She was also a member of the silver medal 400 medley relay team which set a George Washington record with a time of 3:50.53 at the 2004 Atlantic 10 Championship. She also took silver in the 200 freestyle in time of 1:52.42, and was a part of the bronze medal winning 800 free relay at the A-10s in 7:42.51. In addition, Fagley placed fifth in the 400 free relay at A-10s in 3:32.21 and was seventh in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.06. A finance major, Fagley owns a 3.73 cumulative grade point average and has been a member of GW Athletic Dean's List the past seven semesters and has thrice been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Joining Fagley on the women's swimming & diving Academic All-Conference team as well as All-Conference First Team was Moss who had a 3.55 GPA as a pre-arts and sciences major. Dubyel who joined the two on the All-Conference Second Team had a 3.57 GPA with a biological anthropology major and Rasmuson, also a member of the Second Team, had a 3.62 GPA with a major in political communications. All four women collaborated to set a new GW record in the 400-yd medley relay in a new GW record time of 3:50.53 for second at the A-10's.
On the men's side, David Penneys and Andrew De Sorbo helped lead GW to a fourth place finish at the A-10 Championships with 408 points. The women were third with 406 points in the three-day conference championships held in Buffalo, NY.
