Philadelphia, PA - The George Washington men's squash team dropped three matches this weekend at the University of Pennsylvania. The Colonials, who had moved up to No. 18 in the country after last weekend's success, dropped back to No. 22 with three-straight losses. GW lost to Penn, Rochester and Wesleyan and dropped to .500 for the first time this season with a 7-7 record.
Last weekend was GW's first-ever 0-3 weekend and dropped the team four spots in the national rankings. Their disappointing Saturday started with a straight-sets 0-9 loss to No. 8 Pennsylvania who hosted all of the weekend's matches. GW then lost 6-3 to a lower ranked Rochester team. After this upset, the Colonials went directly into their final match of the day against Wesleyan. An exhausted team pulled out only two wins dropping their final match 7-2 to Wesleyan.
Mike Greenwald (Brookline, MA/St. Marks) had success on the weekend, taking both of his matches with Rochester and Wesleyan to lead GW. The other victory against Wesleyan came from GW's number one spot when Greg Vernick (West Roxbury, MA/Milton Academy) claimed a victory.
GW had moved up to No. 18, their highest-ever ranking but this weekend's losses resulted in the team returning to No. 22. The men's team does not compete again until February 21 while the women return to action this coming weekend with two matches in Lancaster, PA.
