Swimming And Diving Honored On All-Conference Team

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington Colonials received several All-Conference honors from the Atlantic 10 for their impressive showing at the A-10 Championships over the weekend. The Colonials men finished fourth with 408 points while the women finished third 406 points in the three-day conference championships in Buffalo, NY. Three Colonials earned First Team All-Conference honors with four first place finishes. Five Colonials earned Second Team All-Conference Honors for four second place finishes and second in the 400-yd medley relay in a new GW record time.
Freshman Sean Flaherty (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) was honored for his fantastic season finishing first and second at the A-10 Champioinships performance by being named the A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie. Flaherty placed first in the 1,650-yd free with a time of 15:47.39. The freshman also finished second in the 200-yd freestyle with a time of 1:41.95.
Sophomore Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) was named to the First Team All-Conference by winning two events and also swimming the lead leg for the 400-yd medley relay team which finished second in a new GW record time of 3:50.53. Moss' time of 57.17 in the 100-yd backstroke was just one one-hundredth off of her GW record time. She also finished first for the second straight day when she finished the 200 backstroke in 2:02.77.
Also earning Atlantic 10 First Team All-Conference honors was senior Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster) who made the most of her final swim meet for the Colonials. Fagley finished first in the 500-yd freestyle with a time of 4:55.27. Additionally, Fagley earned second team honors with a second place finish in the 200-yd freestyle in 1:52.42. The senior also swam the final leg of the GW's record breaking 400-yd medley relay performance.
Joining Moss and Fagley on the record breaking 400-yd medley relay team were senior Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/James I. O'Neill) and junior Kirsten Rasmuson (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel) all of whom earned Second Team All-Conference honors for their second place finish. Dubyel also finished second in the 100-yd butterfly with a time of .57.07 while Rasmuson earned second place in the 100-yd breaststroke with a time of 1:05.06.
