Colonials Place Third And Fourth At A-10 Championships

BUFFALO, NY - George Washington Swimming and Diving put in a strong showing at the Atlantic 10 Championships this weekend held at the Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, NY. GW's women who finished the season 4-3 took third place with a score of 453. The men who were 0-10 in the regular season finished fourth with a score of 369. Five GW records were broken during the three-day championship and the Colonials won three races.
Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) concluded her impressive freshman campaign setting a new GW record in the 100-yd backstoke with a time of :57.25 while leading off the medley relay. She also set a new school record in the 200-yd backstroke in the finals on Saturday night with a time of 2:03.50. This time shattered the record that she held previously by more than a second.
Junior Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/James I. O'Neill) set school records in the 100-yd and 200-yd butterfly events. Dubyel swam the 100-yd butterfly in a time of :56.14 which improved apon the record she already held. Dubyel posted a time of 2:05.31 in the 200-yd butterfly winning the race as well as breaking an eight-year old GW record previously set in 1995 by Stephanie Ballou. Dubyel was honored for her performance by being named to the Atlantic 10 First Team All-Conference.
Junior Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster) also won A-10 First Team All-Conference honors. Fagley finished first in the 200-yd freestyle in a time of 1:52.93. The women's 400-yd medley relay team also set a new school record with a time of 3:51.97. The team, who broke the four-year old record consisted of Moss, Kirsten Rasmuson (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel), Dubyel, and Christina Boland (Purcelville, VA/Loudon Valley).
On the men's side, sophomore Bryan Ferretti (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) was named to the A-10 First Team All-Conference. He finished first in the 1,650-yd freestyle in 16:03.69.
