Hueller, Barunas Earn CRCA Honors

WASHINGTON, DC - Junior Molly Hueller (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater Area) has been named to the Division I All-Region First Team for the third straight year by the the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). The organization also recognized Colonials rower Laura Barunas (Gilford, NH/Gilford) by tabbing the junior one of 15 National Scholar-Athletes from the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Last year, Hueller was named to the 2001 Division I All-America Rowing Second Team by the CRCA. Members of the All-Region teams are selected by CRCA head coaches based on the nominee's team record, strength of schedule, nomination rank (the rank order of nominees as chosen by the nominating coach), coach's comments and 2,000-meter ergometer score. All nominees are required to have raced in the Varsity Eight a minimum of 75% of the boats total races up to May 1, 2002.
Hueller, who rows in the stroke position of the women's varsity eight, is a two-time team MVP for GW Women's Rowing (2001 & 2002).
The National Scholar-Athlete award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. The criteria include meeting eligibility rules as defined by her institution, participating in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, participating in at least 75% of the season's races in the varsity boat, the student-athlete's head coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA and the student-athlete must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA through the fall semester of the current season. Barunas maintained a 3.79 GPA as an exercise science major. It marks her first National Scholar-Athlete award.
