Swimming Splits With JMU

HARRISONBURG, VA - GW women's swimming notched their season's first win defeating JMU despite competing with a smaller squad. Their victory featured a JMU pool record from GW freshman Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) who finished the 100-yd backstroke in :58.40. The Colonials women took home a 120-119 victory with a strong finish. Jessica Jaross (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) put GW in position to win the meet when she took first in 1M diving.
In addition to Moss' record, the women set a JMU pool record in the 400-yd medley relay with an impressive time of 3:57.58. Kirsten Rasmuson (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel) led GW with two first place finishes. She won the 50-yd freestyle in :25.33 and the 100-yd breaststroke in 1:07.54. Other first place finishers were Caitlin Hyde (Fairless Hills, PA/Bensalem) with a 2:12.54 in the 200-yd individual medley, Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/ James I. O'Neill) with a :58.91 in the 100-yd butterfly, and Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster) with a 5:10.31 in the 500-yd freestyle.
On the men's side, JMU came out the winner with 127 points to the Colonials' 107. The Colonials managed four first place finishes in the contest. In addition to winning the 400-yd freestyle relay, three other Colonials captured first place. Bryan Ferretti (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) won the 1,000-yd freestyle in 9:51.05, Andrew De Sorbo (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury) won the 100-yd butterfly in :53.73, and Mark Adams (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) won the 100-yd breaststroke in 1:00.55.
