WASHINGTON, DC (Jan. 19) - Sophomores Ryan White (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy H.S.) and Andrew De Sorbo (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury) led the George Washington men's swimming and diving team to victory against William and Mary this afternoon at the Smith Center each with two first place finishes. Further, the men's team captured 11 of 13 events to win 133-98. Despite the success of freshman Kirsten Rasmuson (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel) and sophomore Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster Academy), the women's team was narrowly defeated 127-113.
White contributed to the men's success by winning the 100 and 200-yd freestyles with times of :48.01 and 1:44.11. De Sorbo swam to victory in the 200-yd individual medley with a time of 1:56.42 and then later in the 200-yd backstroke with a time of 1:56.78. Freshmen Bryan Ferretti (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) and Tom Roman (Voorheesville, NY/The Peddie School), sophomore Joshua Roberts (Memphis, TN/Gallatin), junior David Dillehay (Gallatin, TN/Gallatin), and freshman and sophomore divers James Golihar (Richardson, TX/Bishop Lynch) and Robert Stuart (Greenville, DE/Alexis I. DuPont) were also all victorious in events during the meet.
For the women, Rasmuson won in the 50 and 100-yd freestyles with times of :25.27 and :55.18 respectively. Fagley also swam to victory in both the 200 (1:56.59) and 500-yd freestyles (5:09.34). Other individual winners for the women's team included sophmores Crystal Freeman (Ft. Dix, NJ/Holy Cross) and Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/James I. O'Neill). Freeman captured first in the 1000-yd freestyle with a time of 10:51.37, while Dubyel won the 200-yd butterfly with a time of 2:09.64. Overall the women secured seven first place finishes out of 13 events including the 400-yd free relay.
