Fortuny Places 26th and 32nd At NCAA Championships

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 26) - Senior Alvaro Fortuny (Guatemala City,
Guatemala/Colegio Interamericano) placed 26th in the 100-yd breaststroke and
32nd in the 200-yd breaststroke at this past weekend’s NCAA Championships in
College Station, TX.
Fortuny swam the 100-yd breaststroke in a time of :55.21, which tied him for 26th place with Gary Marshall of the University of Virginia. Brendan Hansen of the University of Texas set a new pool record of :52.35 to win the event. Fortuny finished the season ranked 22nd in the country in the 100-yd breaststroke according to the final NCAA rankings.
Fortuny swam the 200-yd breaststroke in a time of 2:01.60 finishing just ahead of Billy Brown of Massachusetts. Brown defeated Fortuny at the Atlantic 10 Championships in February in the same event. Hansen set an NCAA, American, US Open and Pool record to win the event in 1:53.11.
