Fortuny To Swim At NCAA Championships

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 21) - Senior Alvaro Fortuny (Guatemala City,
Guatemala/Colegio Interamericano) has qualified for the NCAA Championships
after his performance in the Atlantic 10 Championships this past weekend. The
NCAA Championships will be held in College Station, TX beginning on March 22.
Fortuny swam the second fastest 100-yd breaststroke time in the country this season in winning the event at the Atlantic 10 Championships. Fortuny set the school and conference record with a time of :54:65, which puts him behind only Brendan Hansen of Texas (:54.12). Fortuny also set a school record in the 200-yd breaststroke. Fortuny set the record with a time of 1:59.37, the 10th fastest time in the country this season.
Fortuny’s record setting performance at the Atlantic 10 Championships highlighted an excellent weekend for the Colonials, in which the women’s team finished second overall and the men third. GW finished the meet with 11 individual titles and two relay titles.
