GW Men Win Dual Meet; Women Split

On the men's side, senior Tim Champney (Seminole, FL/Cypress Lake) finished first in two individual events, the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes in times of :50.76 and 1:53.24, respectively. Junior Wes Teter (Farmer's Branch, TX/RL Turner High) claimed first place finishes in the 200 free and the 100 free, while junior Alvaro Fortuny (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Colegio Interamericano) continued his strong season with victories in the 100 and 200 breast races. Freshman David Dillehay (Gallatin, TN/Gallatin), last week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, won yet another 1000 free, this time in 9:55.37. Junior Jeremy Hoders (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) won both diving events. Overall, the men defeated George Mason, 152-92, and William & Mary, 163-123. Their record improves to 4-1.
Sophomore Nell Friar (Oak Ridge, TN/Oak Ridge High) won two events for the women, the 100 and 200 breaststrokes in times of 1:05.27 and 2:21.77, respectively. Senior Jennifer Skinner (Liberty, MO/Liberty), last week's Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, won the 1000 free. Junior Lynne McCormick (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) won the 1M diving event with a score of 211.95. The women defeated George Mason, 155-99, but fell short to William & Mary, 160-137. The women now stand at 4-2.
GW's next meet is Jan. 15, as the teams travel to Maryland.
