In 1977, Mary Jo Warner started her career at GW as an Assistant Director of Athletics and was later named Director of Women's Athletics. She held that title until 1988, when she was promoted to Senior Associate Director of Athletics and became the Senior Woman Administrator. Warner retired in 2014 after 37 years of providing leadership in athletic administration, at the university, and in conference and national levels. Warner has been selected to serve on several NCAA committees throughout her career. A member of the NCAA Research Committee from 1996-2000, she served as Chair for her final two years. Prior to that, she served on the NCAA Council from 1992-96. In 1996, she was named the NACWAA District III Administrator of the Year, and in the fall of 2000, the GW Rowing Team honored Warner by christening a new shell, the "Mary Jo Warner".
