John Koniszewski

John Koniszewski, a letterman in three sports at GW (football, basketball and baseball), earned numerous honors in football including All-Southern Conference and All-America honorable mention in 1942. Following three years of U.S. Marine Corps service in World War II, the Peckville, Pa., native played three seasons of NFL football with the Washington Redskins ('45-46 and '48). Later serving as an assistant football coach at the University of Scranton (12 years) as well as head basketball and baseball coach at the school for a year each, Koniszewski was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame for football and football officiating in 1980.
